Question

Hi all I don't know [PoorWordUsage] is going on! I used the boat about 3 dozen times already this year and not a problem. lastnight It wouldn't turn over. batteries are fully charged the overboard switch is not engaged, I could turn it over with a screwdriver on the cylinoid just fine but the key wouldn't work. I check all the fuses from the motor to the switch and they are all fine. all my electroics work, trim works, radio works, livewell, nav lights, accesories every thing works execpt the stuip key.

any ideas? confused.gif

Check the wiring harness between the control and the engine. Look/feel for any chew marks. Mice, squirrels, both seem to love chewing on the wires?! They don't seem to care where you store the boat or how new or old it is. After spending some time working for a marine dealer, this was one of the most common causes of electrical problems between the control and the engine. If a break in the harness is found and you are intrested in repairing it yourself, you will need to solder it back together after you have cut out the bad section. You will need to use heat shrink tubing with the epoxy inside to seal the solder joints. They do need to be a weather tight seal or corrosion will cause you to have the same headache later.

Occasionally the ignition switch goes bad, but that is pretty unlikely. Check to see if there is a relay in the area where the electrical harness connects to the motor. Some motors have a starter relay and a starter selonoid. The relays tend to go before the selonoid or the starter. Start there and I hope it is an easy fix.
