When trolling lead core.........?

Do you guys run a spool of strait lead core on your reels or rig up so many colors with backing. I guess I have always ran it straight, I mostly fish fairly shallow. My real question is will straight lead run deeper when letting out a bunch at high speeds compared to a couple colors of lead with a backing because the backing isnt as thick once you get past the lead, or will straight lead run deeper because of the weight. As long as were on the subject, how does everyone else tie leaders to the dacron?

I run lead with no backing with a 50 foot mono leader. If you segment it you would put mono on first. I don't think you would know how deep you were running if you put on mono and let a lot of that out. The purpose of running segemented lead is when you use planer boards. It is hard to hook the planer boards to lead because it creates too much drag. Most guys will have different amounts of lead core on their reels so they can reach different depths with the planer boards on.

I hope you understand what I mean. There are some good articles on segmented lead core and lead core in general that can be found with a simple internet search.

That is probably where I was hearing that. Thanks. I have put boards on lead without much wind and somewhat close to the boat. On my lakes I get as many fish with with a 4' leader as a 20', and I use fireline for snakes.
