replacing wood on transom

The wood on my transom is getting soft. If I make a pattern & cut that do I need to worry about the boat getting out of square and then not running straight in the water?

If your replacing the wood on an aluminum boat there shouldn't be any problems.

Yeah it's an aluminum boat. 14'. I'll coat the wood in that resin stuff. Last owner had just painted it with oil based paint.
