Need some tips on getting my boat ready for summer.

Redline

Question

I have a 1985 Lund with a 25 hp Evinrude. I haven't run it a couple years, and want to get it on the water this summer. What are somethings I need to do to get it ready? Any help would be great.

Put new lube in the lower unit.

Pull the prop off and check the shear pin. My 18 Evinrude prop nut used to loosen up and if you didn't catch this it would slowly wear the shear pin in half.

Check the plug wires and fuel lines for hardness and cracking.

Go at the gas can with a pen light and make sure there is no water or contaminates in it. If there is old gas in it get rid of it. Run it in your lawn mower, or vehicle if it is not full of water. I usually burn it up in my vehicles because it then gets mixed with a good quantity of fresh gas already in the tank.

Run it in a garbage can or other suitable conatainer. Don't even pull the rope unless it is in water because this damages the rubber impellers of the water pump.

Spark plugs are optional if it runs good. At least have a spare set on hand. If you do replace them, make sure to gap em right.

Grease any zirks on the tilt mechanism.
