holiday weekend,fishing results

Recommended Posts

Tried a few eastern wisconsin lakes with little success on Yellow Lake and ok fishing on another area lake.

All the shallow water has alot of weeds, and the main crappie spawn is over. Still a few male crappies on beds but they aren't holding like they usually do. Very nice days out fishing though.

Tried various diffent lakes around the webster danbury area.

water temps ranged from 57 to 69.

Bass and crappies on the smaller lakes were done and the sunnies were up in the shallows making beds.

as for the actually fishing, well, slow, caught one 36" northern, a couple crappies and some small bass that's it.

I fished 4 lakes all with the same succes, one here one there. confused.gif

Had my brother visiting Friday-Monday from Southern Illinois ... fished St. Louis River, Chequamegon Bay for walleyes, and did fairly well. Biggest fish was 24" (Kakagon Sloughs). Trolled for Lake Trout off the mouth of the Bad River a couple times ... hammered 'em! C&R mostly, they were almost all over 25", and you can only have one apiece over 25" (as if you would want those FATS anyway)! All in all, a great weekend with the bro'. He's bringing his boy back in two weeks, hope we stay on the hot bites.

Well there were sure enough boats out and about this past holiday weekend. Glad some people caught some fish. From the people I spoke to in around the northern part of the state, especially inland, it sounded as though fishing was pretty tough. A lot of inactive fish with a few hooked up here and there.

Smeds, glad you had some fun up here. Sounds like you got into some good lakers. Most of them were fats? or just oversized leans? Did ya make it up in the Bad to do any walleye fishing?

Jim ... as far as I could tell they were fats, didn't filet too many though. The ones we did the meat seemed pretty yellow. Honestly, I don't think I can really tell the difference unless that leading edge on their fins really jumps out at me. Any other ways to tell? Didn't make it up the Bad, but will try this weekend most likely (if the sloughs slow down that is). Good luck!

Smeds

Fats or the Siskowet have a rounded nose portion of their head compared to the lean or what people would call the red fin. Leans have a longer snout. Both have the red fins though, but fats are easy to tell by that big ol rounded off nose.

Good luck the next time your up, and if you ever need a partner out there, let me know.
