gilby
How should I adjust my coupler on my boat trailer. Should it have a little play or should there be no play when setting on the ball. Thanks, gilby.
0 lawdog
When its latched you don't want any play in there. Too loose isn't safe and you don't get good ground for your wiring either.
0 Macgyver55
When properly adjusted, the coupler should be snug on the ball. Just don't have it so tight that its hard to get off when released. Don't forget to lube the coupler once in a while, it probably the most overlooked maintainance on a trailer. In reply to a point above, although many trailers end up grounding that way, properly wired lights on a trailer do not need a ground through the coupler. Its all done through the connector. The hitch is nothing more than an accidental default if the ground wire becomes corroded or breaks.
