ethan
so is the oil for the lower unit suppose to be a light brown color? I was thinking it would be a clear color! Well I need some new oil, what kind would be best for a older 18hp evinrude? Anyone with some suggestions? Thanks.
0 beer batter
It is supposed to be a dark honey colored oil. If it's milky you've got water mixing in with it in your lower unit which is not a good sign. The oil is 90 weight but make sure it's specially made for lower units. Not any 90 weight oil will do. Fleet Farm has a bunch of it as will any marine dealer.
0 ethan
hey thanks for the info. Do you think if I went to Fleet Farm and asked them they'll know what I'm talking about?
0 Surface Tension
I just replied to your prop question along with suggesting you drain the gear oil. You should do that every fall. You don't want that water trapped in there to freeze and crack your lower drive housing, not to mention the corrosion and lack of lube that happens with water in there. Was there and metal filings? Don't use an auto gear lube, look for lube stating for Outboards.
