Trolling Motor, Battery and Charger

aug495fish

Question

I bought my first boat last July and am now in the process of making some upgrades. On Friday I am going to buy a trolling motor. I've already picked out which one but I really could use some guidance about a battery and portable charger. The motor is a Minn Kota Endura 46lb. thrust. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

For a battery, find one with the highest amp hour rating (AH).. not cranking amps.. the higher the amp hours, the longer it will run on a single charge.. theres lots of batteries out there, I would recommend getting at least a 120 ah rating.

As for chargers.. theres lots of portable chargers out there.. be sure it specifies for deep cycle charging.. I think its about a 10 amp standard charge... charging any faster can cook the battery, or greatly shorten the life of it.

Optima makes a very good battery but the cost is not cheap.Runs the trolling motor for a very good amount of time. Then for a charger you could buy a onboard type charger/maintainer-plug in when you get home and unplug when its time to go,great deal.
