Vex Promount vs. Johnny Ray

clam up

Question

After countless hours of strenuous research, I've come to the conclusion that vexilar has made themselves a quality quick release mount for your graphs/sonar. I like it much better than the Johnny Ray mount. Anyone else got any comments? Doesn't seem like Gander or Joe's has even heard of them. I did finally find them at Thorne Bros.

I agree with your opinion clam up. I actually bought a johnny ray recently and returned it after comparing it to a friend's pro mount. It seemed easier to take the pro mount on and off the base compared to the johnny ray...plus the pro mount came with stainless steel hardware...the johny ray did not come with any hardware and was a couple bucks more.

Did you happen to take a look at RAM mounts? I have had Johnny Ray's in the past, but after switching to RAMS one year ago I haven't looked back. I now have all my accessories mounted on RAMS. You may get some other feedback from other RAM users out there...

Take care!

Valid point there KT....but nothing a little garage/adult beverage engineering couldn't take care of. That's something they can definately improve on though.

As far as the RAM mounts go...they look high quality for sure. I wasn't too crazy about the ball and socket system for quick release though nor did the overall apearance appeal to me. You never know when those fishfinder bandits may attack and you need to hide your graph quickly....You RAM owners would be unscrewing and unclamping...and well....you know the rest. I had all 3 types (vex, Johnny Ray, RAM) in front of me at the store and weighed all the options. That reasonable price along with the shiney new hardware was enough to win me over.
