Sioux#1
I've fished Bird and Flanders Lake but have never gone that deep into the Nopiming Park. I was also looking at Quesnel Lake as an option for this summer but was concerned about the extra distance on gravel. I had the side-wall punched out of a truck tire coming out of Bird Lake. The shale/limestone (or whatever the rock is)is extremely sharp. I bring two trailer tires when I drive that far but not two extra truck tires. I was wondering if taking the black top up to Hecla Island would be easier on equipment and a better way to travel. Bird and Flanders get a lot of local weekend fishermen and both have a lot of cabins on them. Can't imagine the same would be true for Quesnel. Interested in seeing what you find out on the lake. wack-a-wally
Have Fished there 8-9 days, once in Late May, once in early August. Great Smallmouth, good Walleye, good Pike, lake is connected to Manigotagan which has even better fishing, best of all it is easily accessed within 10-15 minutes. Staying @ Jackson's? ... They're good people & run a good resort. June is a good month for Lunker Walleye.... Work the 2 big reefs. Crawler & harness seemed to be the ticket on the reefs. Jig @ leech in moving water. Sioux#1
How were the road conditions and did you pull your own boat up there?I've seen Jackon's web site...it looks like a nice place.
bluewater
Living in Kansas(USA) driving 1200 miles one way, I would have to say this lake is the best kept secert for fishing in that area of Canada. I have never been disappointed. Have master angler several times on small mouth.
wack-a-wally
Trailered a boat both times, as far as recommending whether to bring a boat or not, for us it was a matter of economics.... $80.00 a boat per day vs. whatever damage we were risking, was what swayed us.Roads were fair, Powerview/Pine Falls to Bisset (last 2 to 3 hrs) is on gravel, you'll get plenty of dust. Most of the way is double wide but watch out for logging trucks, they FLY down the middle of those roads. Last 3-4 miles into lake will take about 30-45 minutes. (single lane fire road, many tight turns and rock outcroppings to manuver around) Worth every minute of it though, adds to the adventure. Can't say enough good things about Jackson's. Like them enough to do one of their outpost camps every year now.
Sioux#1
After my post I saw the directions that Jackson's gives to their resort...they keep you on the tar as long as possible. I've fished the river at Pine Falls before and I'm very familiar with the Lac du Bonnet area. Of course I never fished MB when I lived there, had to move to Mpls/St.Paul before I got the fever...go figure.I thought everyone in the metro fished Ontario, so it's great to get Manitoba information.
