Fair price on a boat

Scoot

Question

I'd like to get other people's opinion on the fair price of this boat. I have NO OTHER INFORMATION about it. NOTHING! So for any details that you might want to have about the boat to get a guess at the price, you'll have to ballpark it.

1999 1775 Pro-V with a 1999 75 hsp 4 Stroke Honda. The boat and motor is a tiller. Also comes with a Shorelandr trailer (not sure about bunk or rollers). It's got no trolling motor or electronics. It's seen relatively light use since it was purchased.

My two real questions about this boat are:

1) what should someone have paid for it in 1999?

2) what's it worth now?

SCoot, I did a little searching for you on the web... There are a couple of different modles of the 1775 pro V.. one is ust a proV one is a ProV SE... really only about $100 difference between the two with the SE being more valuable. Then there were 3 different 75 HP Hondas that came out that year that I could tell too... but again only about $200 difference from high to low...

Average Retail on the boat used now looks like $6380

Engine between $4100--$4,365... Then add what you want for the trailer? $500? Thats what NADA says... I have no idea what this was worth new in 99'....

Use this how you like.. however, I have never paid full NADA price before on a used boat.

Good luck!

What's up your sleeve, Scoot? I'd have to say that Deitz is right about on track. Before I bought my boat last spring, I did a lot of pricing on boats very similar to this one. $12,500 if it's in nice shape. In my estimation, that's top end.

The only way to figure out what a boat is really worth, is to find out what other boats close to the same thing are going for around the area.

As for NADA...I wouldn't go by the books.

I for instance have an older boat (1985), that NADA says is only worth about $1,200.00! And my motor worth only $400. If I put it up for sale, I could easily get $4,000 out of it...My motor alone would sell for $1600 or more. I don't know how accurate they are with the newer stuff, but with the older models they aren't even close.

I think after looking around at new and used, if you still think it's worth the money, get it. If you really like the boat get it. If you think the price is kinda steep, try to talk em' down a bit.

Good luck on your new purchase.

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
