Lund/ Crestliner come with Merc only

B-bear

Question

With the boat show coming up I was wondering if anybody else heard how Lund and Crestliner got bought by Brunswick the parent company of Mercury outboards. I read they plan to only come with Merc rigging from the factory. I wonder if they will only allow Motorguide trolling motors be sold on them also since Motorguide is a brand name of Brunswick. Either way it limits choices to the consumer. Not good in my opinion.

From what i've heard most dealers will not get them in pre-rigged to better serve the customer. It may cost you a little more, but it may be worth it. If you go on crestliners site and build a boat they only allow mercury in the options. I guess mercury was doing pretty bad with the problems on the optimax's and loosing money. It was a last chance hope along with the new verado. Hopefully it works out for them. Competition is a good thing.

That's interesting. Because what I have read that they will only come with Merc rigging and if you want different you would have to pay to remove the old rigging and also pay for the new rigging for say a Yammy or Suz. Dennis Anderson wrote an article in the Strib about it a few days ago.

That might change in a year or two. I just read where the "imported" (insert your own word for it) motors where declared by court to be selling their motors below market value to get a foothold in the North American boating business that was once dominated by Mercury and Evinrude/Johnson. There will now be a teriff on the imported motors. Tisk, tisk, another underhanded business deal. frown.gif
