Simply fishing tournament coming back to the Big V.

Recommended Posts

Although it's not been made offical just yet the word on the street is that "Simply Fishing" will be having the "Simply Fishing Muskie Classic" on Lake Vermilion Sept 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18th, for 2005. They haven't announced the host sites for this years event however they will be known soon.

The format will be the same as last years event and the entry fee will be $2500.00 per team, with a field of 100 boats. $100,000.00 first prize if the 100 spots fill up. I better start saving my money for the entry fee. smile.gif

Nawwwwwwww, just kidding.

I had fun last season in the First one.

Weather could have been a bit better, but fun just the same.

Would advise any one to try this at least once in your Musky Life.

Looking forward to it, Ace!

However, I won't make it to Vermilion very much in 2005. Just not enough vacation... and I'm already committed to my annual week on LOTW. Thus, I'll have to just try and squeek in a weekend or two for prefishing.

Can't wait for September!

I will be in this years Classic, all I need to do is find a partner. I had to skip last years due to family commitments, but I will plan this years around the Classic.

Looking forward to hearing all the details. Sounds like Bob announced the location during the Chicago Muskie Show.

Well I'm off to study the map!

There is another major change from last year, the entire tournament is going out of "Vermilion Dam lodge" this year. I guess I'll have to get up a little earlier this year so I can make that 30min

drive to the dam. shocked.gif

VDL is a nice place, but kinda remote for holding all the tournament stuff, in my opinion. How long of a drive is it by truck from Tower to VDL? Not looking forward to making that trek each night to check the standings.

I wonder if VDL will be the only take-off point in the morning too?

Magnum buddy, got a partner?

When we drive to VDL it takes us about an hour from Hilla's Standing Bear marina in town.

But you could do it in 45 or so I bet.

I drive pretty slow on gravel.

Like to look at stuff don't ya know.

Jump off points were changed the night of the LONG drunken rules meeting if I remember correctly?

But if Bob at Bay View is not in and the Casino is not, who knows?

Time will tell eh?

Sorry Tom, but I already have a partner. smile.gif

Two hours in the truck each night??? No way. I'll just call home and get an internet report each night... if I really must know what's up.

A 30 minute boat ride each morning won't be as bad.... if we must take off from VDL.

I suppose lots can change in the next 7 months???

The trip normally takes me about 40 minutes, if I go by car, it only takes me 30 minutes by boat.

The word is only one takeoff point for this years tournament, I haven't talked to Bob at Bayview so I don't know why he isn't involved this time.

Other than the 11miles of gravel road VDL isn't a bad place to take off from. It's on the near west end so it's only minutes from Big Bay and Fraiser

Bay. Unfortunately it will be a real drag for the people that have to haul their boats every day.

Hmmmm.... I contacted VDL to inquire about lodging availability before and during the Simply Fishing tourney and they informed me that nothing has been confirmed yet and they are still negotiating. Its possible that the tourney headquarters may end up at a different location if things don't work out for VDL.

Looks like we will have to hang in limbo to see how things shake out. confused.gif

Dude, might end up going out of Hoodoo Point Launch.

It's FREE.

Meet in the middle of Big Bay around a pretty pontoon, ready, set, GO.

Lots will change again this time before any one says GO September 14th.

My partner will be pumped and we will have a plan Daddy O.

Have fun, Rip some Lips.

I am surprised it has taken this long to get ANY info, now to hear that it is "wrong". I know Bob has had the permit for two months, and we still don't know where the "official" host location will be. If he is claiming VDL as the host, they must be pretty close to getting things worked out? Ed would be a great host and his place is very nice. Easy access to either end of the lake. It would be a long drive for anyone staying at the Casino or East end cabins.

I guess it is still a sit and wait to see what the final word is. Then if it all makes sense -- it's time to find a partner!
