Stay N Charge in an Emergency

Ronsay

Question

Coming off of Red Lake Wednesday the dreaded battery light came on on my F-150. I drove awhile and decided to unplug the Stay N charge for a reserve.

We made it to Blackduck where the battery went dead at the gas station coming into town, I was told that there was a station with a garage about a half mile away.

I hooked the Stay N Charge back up and let it back charge for about 10 minutes and presto, it started right up.

They had us fixed and out the door in about an hour.

I know that it worked on my old '73 ford. But I would think the same is still true today. The battery just starts the car/truck. If your lights are getting dim, and the truck is just loosing power, you can just unhook the battery. If the battery is dead it will draw all the power from the alternator. That leaves no power to run your car.

Thats interesting, I didn't think you could disconnect the battery on a gas engine and it would keep running.

The alternator is what went out on my truck and drew the battery down, even though I disconnected and shut down everything. Not sure, but it may of shorted out inside the alternator.

I was very thankful for having the stay n charge with the bad weather yesterday, and saving me a bill for towing.
