Harv
Hello, My wife bought me this portable fish house (eskimo quick flip 2 deluxe) for X-mas and I have it all together in my basement as we speak. Everything went together fine and I had no problems. I do have a question regarding the poles. Does anyone ever put any lubrication on them, ie..WD 40 or something to that effect??? Or can a guy go without putting anything on them. Thanks!
DrKen
Most people use some sort of lube etc. I used car wax on mine and it worked great.
federline
Congrats! Nice gift. I got one, too. :-)I second the hand-applied car wax or ski wax, or something like it that is completely solid at room temp when in contact with air, not sticky, and has no solvents to suspend it. No spray waxes.I'd stay away from the WD40. The solvents in it can weaken fabrics, natural and man made - this goes for the fancy household oils in sprays cans, too. And if you use a lot, and it leaches into the fabric, your whole mess could go up in flames with one heater accident. I know, I know, we never have accidents, just "incidents" - as Dad always said, "Don't become a statistic!" :-)Regular oils will get sticky or hard in the cold and actually make it not slide, and can make the little spring beads stick inside the poles sometimes. The treated poles could go a couple years from new maybe without needing lube, but by then oxidation will build up on the surface and make the fit tighter - then, you could sand them down, but you'll never have the same degree of metal protection as they did before. Best to wax them twice a year - when you put it away in spring and when you take it out in fall.Good luck!
Ed Carlson
Try Frabill Sub-Zero lube. Great on the poles and most anything in need of winter lubrication a sportsman may use.The Sub Zero lube will resist washing off and keeps reels smooth down to -40. Good stuff!
