Mercury ?

A friend of mine is having trouble with his Mercury 150 Black Max. It wants to cut out under load and won't accelerate to 5,000 rpm. He's needing it next weekend and the dealers he's tried around the Rochester area is 2-3 weeks out.
Any suggestions or recommendations for somebody who's good and could get it done by next Thursday? He's willing to take it to the Cities, LaCrosse, Mankato, Faribault if necessary.

Uffdapete, I wish I could help, but this time of the year is bad for everybody.
If it was something simple, I could have done, but it might be a tougher job than I can do. Did he take a compression test ? How old is the motor, and have carbs and fuel pump been rebuilt before ?
