how much ice for a portable

how much ice do u need to take out your portable?

I'd say at least 4-5 inches but I'm a big guy and thin ice spooks me.

In reality, if its safe enough for you to walk on, its safe enough for you to put a protable on the ice. For me thats about 4 inches....

The thinnest amout of ice I have ever fished on with my portbable was about 3 inches(the same it is w/o it). I was more concerned about the ice than I was about fishing...not worth it. I usually prefer at least 4 solid inches. In a way it's nice not having any snow on the ice because you can see where your walking. I get a little nervous early in the season when there's snow on the ice.
