Ice chisels

I am new at this, a guy told me if he hits the ice twice or more with his ice chisel the ice is safe to walk on, is this true

Safe ice is something you learn with experience. Hopefully not the bad kind, like falling through. The safefest way I have found, especially with first ice, is to drill holes every few feet to test the thickness. For some the spud bar may work, and thats fine for them. Just be careful, and use common sense. I usually like 4" of clear ice under me.

Thanks Dan, I haven't fell through yet, but I know a couple of people who have. I just wanted to know what everyone thought of the ice chisel test, thanks again.
