fishing41
I currently have a StrikeMaster 10" auger. It works great, but I can't stand the smoke/stink in the house when I'm done--just one of those things that have always bugged me. At the end of last year I purchased the "smoke-free" oil, but never had a chance to try it out. Has anyone else? Does it help?Does anyone use an electric auger? Are they powerful/fast enough? How many holes can you drill off a charged battery? Do they work good enough hooked up to an ATV?
IceBound
I have an older Strikemaster electric that works OK, kind of slow, but doesn't stink. A buddy of mine got the Electric Lazer last year and that baby cuts fast...it is a great unit. If you are going to use it only for a few holes (I think he said he could cut around 14 or so on a full charge on its internal battery) in a day..I would definitely recommend it. Of course it can always be ran off a battery, such as your ATV for drilling many holes. I see Jiffy has one this year also, but I do not know much about it. REA
I bought a new one about 7-8 years ago. It didn't have alot of power and was kind of a pain, because I had to carry (or drive) a battery everywhere I drilled. Also, it didn't re-drill holes in a house very well. They may have improved the power over the last few years, but...well, I sold mine in a garage sale for $50.

fubar
Strikemaster has an exhaust system that runs a hose out the door, so the exhaust doesn’t fill up the house. It’s an attachment to the muffler. I would think it’s cheaper than a new auger. But then again, a guy has to have new toy once in a while. I was just at their web page and couldn't find the exhaust attachment. I guess I was wrong sorry
fishing41
I like your thinkin' about the new toy! I might pick one up, but I like the larger 10" hole on my gas auger. Besides that, it's still like new! Sometimes you wish these things didn't last so long so you could justify going out and buying new!I've always thought someone should make some sort of exhaust hose, but haven't seen one myself. If anyone knows of one, please let us all know.
IceBound
I remember seeing an exhaust system for gas augers in a permanent house a few years back, but I can't remember who made it...I was thinking of getting one last year and looked everywhere for it, but had no luck. It did clip over the muffler and had a flexible hose to run out the door or window. I have been tinkering with the idea to make my own, but as usual...time has not been on my side. It will be nice to see if anyone knows where they can be purchased...perhaps it was homemade and I saw it in a magazine article...I was thinking it was on a Jiffy...since that is what I use...not sure though! fishing41
I think I'll start a new post to see if someone knows where to find one.
