scope mounting help

I am mounting my first scope.

I have a weaver mount and Burris Zee rings. When I slide the rings on the mount they are a bit loose. When I insert the ring screw and tighten, it is still a little loose.

I assume the rings should be very tight to the mounts? or is a little play ok?

Should I have to put that much pressure on the screw to tighten or do I maybe have the wrong size?

I am slightly confused.

Are the rings loose on the scope base, or is the scope sloppy in the rings?

Anyhoo, all should be rigid. Any discernable movement will kill accuracy.

If you have slop, take the gun, base, scope, and rings to the place where you purchased the base and rings and they should be able to get you set up.
