The only ones you can get into this late in the game are the PWT, and RCL League (not the RCL circut) The PWT has openings because they don't pay cash to their amateurs, just prizes. I hope they take it in the shorts now that the RCL is in the game. I always thought that was cheap to pay $600 for a tournament, only to win a bunch of donated items a guy wouldn't use anyway.

Yo Silverbullet

What's your point!!

You think you're going to fish a PWT as an am. and win cash. Show me a check written out to an am. and I'll admit I'm wrong. Read your own link and look at the fine print buddy.

Are you not seeing the cash purse next to the logo????????? You really think people would pay $550 to fish for tackle? Where does the am entry fee go towards? So are you saying the the PWT HSOforum is doing false advertising? The fine print just says other prizes are included.

Not to start an argument but all I see next to the logo is "Amateur Purse" nothing about cash. And like I said earlier I have a friend that fished it and got 600 dollars or something like that worth of crankbaits and gift certificates, NO cash. Even first place is the boat package NO cash. I may be wrong but I dont think there is any cash for the amateurs. The only reason amateurs pay so much I think is the learning experience.

The Am side of the PWT pays in prizes thats all, No money. I fished one and placed 4th on the Am side. I got about $2,000 worth of prizes, No Money. A trolling motor, GPS,crank baits, rod&reel combos, rod holders, hooks, drift sock ect.............
PWT PAYS NO MONEY TO AM SIDE.

Dont mean to change the subject but has anyone given any thought about the MWT? it pays cash prizes, only one day event on sunday...its alittle late to be a touring team but they often have slots open when someone cant make an event....check it out at polebender.com and click on the MWT link...might think about it for next year...i know that the guys have an excellent time.

On that note, the MTT is another good one to look at. I know the spring tournys are always full but the last few have been pretty short of boats. This too pays cash down so many places and gives prized as well. If anyone knows how last weekends big stone went let me know.

I fished as an Am at the PWT event at Mobridge last year. I didn't do it for the chance to win. I did it because you get to fish with a different pro each day. I learned a lot from each pro. If you pay close attention and ask them questions, you can learn small subtle things about boat control, depth finder settings and readings, different fishing techniques and keeping fish healthy in the livewell, just to name a few.

The best way to do it for next year, is to wait for the PWT to list their 2005 schedule, request an entry form and mail it in as soon as they allow. This should secure a spot at a certain event. The RCL is set up similar, and there have been countless debates over which one is better and why.
Bottom line is pick the event or events that best fit your schedule or which water you really want to fish, and don't look back.To think that you are going to place "in the money" should be secondary at best, because it comes down to the luck of the draw as to who you get paired with.

Regards,

Scott Lee

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
