fish locator

looking to buy a fish locator and would appreciate some input on a good, portable unit. Nothing to complicated as this will be the first time I (we) use one.....Thanks

Entry level units vary. There are some decent portables out there and they range in price. The one I would recommend is the Fish Easy 2 Portable by Eagle. Comes with a Suction cup transducer and is completely portable. Retails for around $150.
There is also the Hummingbird Smart Cast. This has wireless transducers enabling you to "throw" them anywhere. Don't really work when the boat is moving. Disadvantages are that it won't work when the boat is moving and the screen pixel count stinks.
I would recommend the Fish Easy 2 Portable unit. It is a good one.
