ATV's????????

Recommended Posts

It's like anything else, whatever you can afford. I have an older Yamaha Big Bear that I use for hunting, fishing, and plowing. I would recommend 4WD and liquid cooled. If I were to upgrade, I would go for liguid cooled, Mine will get hot if heavily loaded and traveling at low speeds. Iv'e never needed a winch, but then I don't get that extreme.

Gilles, yes I was there over the weekend. It was very cold,- 21,the first morning. The next day nice, got much earlier start, trout
bite was exellentI caught several nice browns and bows. Tryed for macs both days,no luck.I'm a novice on mac fishing so you can't gauge much on my report.Talked to DOW several times, they said they had not seen many macs, the largest around 4 lbs.The lake is complety froze over and fishable. I fished Elk creek, wind surf area and pinnacles,Elk creek was the most productive by far.I've come to the conclusion if going to hunt macs Ive got to be more mobile, thus the interest in atv's. Good Luck <<>> SW icer

An ATV or snowmobile would definitly help at Blue Mesa, especially when there's 10 inches of snow and slush to flog through. Elk Creek more times than not is good for browns and rainbows, they seem to really school up in that cove for some reason, and at other times they both seem to vanish. I always plan a trip to Blue in March because they're generally more active and those extra 20 or 30 degrees make a huge difference without a hut. If you or anybody else has questions about Blue Mesa's lakers I could throw a few other tips you way, Contact me at: [email protected].

If youre going icefishing,in my opinion, youve got to go with a snomobile, the places I fish a four-wheeler just wont do the trick. You can always buy an old cheap sled that will do all the work you need it to. I've been going on my fishing sled for two years and only paid $350. Look around at the end of sled season and you will find a lot of quality used sleds.

Hey guys, first off, Chambers is about 40 miles west of Ft.Collins on Hwy 14. Now about the sleds, there is a number of places to find a cheap sled, try on-line or grab a cycle trader at your local gas station, the Rocky Mountain News classifides are loaded with 'em too. I live in Greeley and there is a local used cycle shop in town and he carries a lot of cheap ones. If you find a good one dont think about it to long 'cause for some reason they dissappear pretty quick. Good luck guys, and if you have any more questions give a post and I'll help you out the best I can.

sledfreak, I'm a newbie on the snowmobile market, what brand or qualities do you look for when purchasing a used sled? Whats the oldest sled you would consider buying?

Well, like all of us, we all have that one brand were just crazy about, for me its Polaris, but dont be scared to buy any brand they all do the trick. Age is not a big factor but mileage is. If you look at a sled that is air cooled I wouldnt go any higher than 5k miles, that will get you a couple of good years of use before you heve to do some work. If you find one that is liquid cooled the skies the limit, just make sure it was taken care of and you should be in good shape. For fishing I would recomend a trail or touring sled, try to stay away from deep powder or mountain sleds. If you have any more queations give a post.
