GRANBY Question??????????

Recommended Posts

Eric,
I fished there on Monday and have to disagree with you. From my experience, the toughest part was getting from the ice back up to the vehicle. That sled was a heavy pull up the hill. Several lakers but all were in the 16-22" range.
Just got back from a drive around Chatfield. Looks like the whole lake has iced over. Walked out off of Catfish Flats and talked with a couple of folks out there. Ice appeared to be about 12" thick. Saw one hole that someone had started without going all the way through and it was every bit of 10" deep. The lake is solid ice up to the shore line, so no wading is required.

Depends on how fat you are. It's a long haul, but not impossible. I've never done it and probably won't ever, but give it a shot. The tuffest part will be getting from where you can park down to the ice.

If you want to fish Elephant island the shortest walk is from Stillwater camp ground/boat ramp. There is very little snow cover so if you have ice cleats that really helps. The ice was between 10" to 14" thick around the lake. The walk up hill to the parking lot is the worst of the experience. I fished all over the lake last weekend and caught the biggest macks in water less than 25 feet deep. Good luck.
