Chatfield Wally's

Reg, I haven't actually fished it so I wouldn't know, I might be mixing up the crappie action with Cherry Creek Res. But do you happen to know where some underwater structure is in Chatfield? I'd like to try for some walleyes soon.

There's crappies in Chatfield? I've never seen any and I've fished the livin' H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS out of that lake!!! I've also heard rumors of perch, but never seen more than a few. Mostly trout and a few small walleyes...

There are supposedly Crappies and Sunnies in Chatfield but I too have never seen any. I also wonder about the evil plot someone is undertaking to hide all the walleyes from me in the winter. As far as structure goes, Chatfield seems to have more than the typical bowl cut reservoir. Look for deep holes, sunken riverbeds and and an old bridge. Get a map of the lake to help you find them. I seem to catch nothing but walleyes and smallmouth in the summer (which is good), but nothing but trout in the winter ( not so good).

I've never caught a crappie at Chatfield, but I have caught perch, bluegills, catfish, brown trout, rainbow trout, smallmouths, and walleyes.

Gilles - I have some GPS spots of the bridge and steep slopes of gravel pits. Email me at [email protected] and I could forward those to you.

Cherry Creek definately has crappies, although they have been on the small side so far this year. THey get a considerable amount of fishing pressure. I picked up a contour map at Sportman's or someplace that has lots of CO lakes in it, including Chat and C.C., 11 mile, Boyd, etc, etc.. I have found it to be a good investment...
