Lake trout @ Blue Mesa

Recommended Posts

I tried to get a hold of people there last Weds. (12/31) to see if the lake was frozen. The web cam was down, nobody answered the phone at the park service office or the chamber of commerce office. I spoke to someone at the Division of Wildlife office that told me the ice on the lake was not safe.

I was also told the ice was not safe at Williams Fork but when I got there, I (as well as many other people) were fishing through ice 6 - 8" thick.

Since you're in Grand Junction, I'd try the local tackle stores.

Blue Mesa is frozen from the inlet to the narrows (west of the Elk ck. boat ramp). Good ice, 6-8". It was -30 deg. there last night and the area has 6" of snow, shouldn't be long now.

Gilles,
I heard a rumor this weekend that Taylor was either near empty or drawn way down for dam repairs. Might call ahead. It was hearsay, so check for yourself.

A friend was at Taylor Res. over New Years weekend and he said the water was higher than it was in July. He said it looked normal to him.....not drawn down. He got his truck stuck in a snow bank and spent the better part of the weekend getting out. So much for fishing.
