Horseshoe for crappies

Recommended Posts

Dan, about a week ago, loveland only had 2 inches. I'm going to Sportsmans warehouse ,so I'll check conditions today. I may even check out Boyd while I'm there. With horseshoe being totally drained this past year, do ya think there will be any crappies there??? I sure hope so.

Hey Dan Dan! Good news from loveland! I went to check out Boyd and never made it any further. In the marina by the dam, there was a solid 6 inches. Caught tons of FAT rainbows in 11 feet of water the biggest was 19inches. (pretty good for Boyd) and probably a dozen bass about fives inches or so. This was between 2-5 o'clock. another group said they caught a 16 and 12inch crappie on Sunday at horseshoe, without any type of bait, ( just small tubes) as I was leaving, there was a truck of guys getting ready to do some night fishing right off the other side of the dam. I don't know how the main lake is, or Lake Loveland, but they will get a sincere effort tommorrow. I've got to find some eye's, crappie, or perch soon, not a big fan of those slimy trout! (but they were fun to catch!) I'll let you know how it goes.

Trout action has slowed down alittle bit at Boyd, but still getting some nice fish. The ice is getting alittle thicker, so it may be time to venture out into the main part of the lake. (south side still has some soft spots.) Horseshoe getting some action right across from the Boyd Dam,(but still quite abit of open water), a few crappies, but no one caught anything on Sunday after sunup. Lake Loveland, only 2inches of ice in area by the firehouse, boatramp has 5-6inches, being fished alittle, haven't heard of any eyes takin. one group got a few small perch and bass, along the rocks north of the boat ramp. I may get some minnows and give it a shot Tuesday night

I was at Sportsman's in Loveland yesterday, talked to a guy who said a guy that works there got some nice crappies jigging at Horseshoe couple of days ago. I called Boyd this morning and the ranger told me trout action is still good by dam and walleyes being reported in 12-14' of water. I will be on it by 3:30 today. If anybody is out, look me up--I'll be wearing a dark blue coat and a Green Bay Packer hat.

How about Lake Loveland? Any reports? Also interested in ANY Northern Colorado ice reports--especially walleyes and panfish.

If you want trout, the action at Boyd was good on Weds. I fished it until 6:30 p.m. or so--not a single walleye, trout only. I drove over to Lake Loveland and there was one shack out there with a lanterrn on inside, I presume he was fishing night bite for walleyes or perch.

Can the ice at Boyd, et. al., survive this warm spell? I was planning to hit it on Sat, but now I'm a bit nervous...

Well, I think the people who live around Horseshoe must have gotten together and stocked the lake with fingerling large mouth bass. I fished it thursday for about 5 hours and that was all I caught. I see the reports and there have been a few crappie taken but nothing like two years ago. Guess the drought must have knocked it down.
