Twin Anchors Bluegill Tourney

My brother owns Twin Anchors campground near Colo(15 miles east of Ames on Hwy 30). The camp ground has a 7 acre pond that is over loaded with bluegills. We thought we would have a friendly bluegill fishing tourney to try to get them back in check. Dale(D00buck), Chris(yank) and I fished it yesterday and it was non-stop action all day. I thought maybe we could have it Saturday Feb 14th. Could start around 8:00 a.m. He has a rec room that we could gather in and grill a brat or a burger or something. He said to make it interesting he will pay $50 for the most gills and $25 for the 5 largest gills(total weight). The bass, catfish and crappies will be catch and release only. There are some big bass, catfish and crappies in the pond but the gills are way over populated. My father-in-law joined us yesterday and he iced a 5-6lb catfish. No bluegills will be released. I can guarantee good action and it might be a good chance for those of us that haven't made it to an outing to meet. Any one interested??

bcon,
I posted this on Iowa outdoors first and it looks like I overlooked the fact that The 14th is V-Day. Decided that we would shoot for Sunday the 15th 8:00-12:00. We are thinking of either grilling some burgers or possibly frying some fish. The afternoon would be just some casual fishing and bsing. Yes it is a private pond. Should be a good time with a lot of action for all.

Sure sounds like a fun time to the ol dog! Guess I'll just have to keep it in mind...that's a long walk from Marion!!! hehehe But those burgers & brats could be just the incentive I need. Throw in some barley pop and you could probably have 150 icers there in no time!! Don't figure I would partake of any cash...not after I showed my limited skills at the last fisheree at Rockin' Rock Creek!!! Chad you might just as well have him put your name on the check now!!!

David,
You better just plan on being there. We need an official fish weigher and my brother already told me that I was not allowed to win. There are some good fish to be had in there. Many years ago a girl caught a 4lb 9oz crappie. I believe it was the state record for a short time. It looks like there are going to be quite a few guys there and we don't want to hurt the population of the species that are doing well so other than bluegills it will be catch and release. It will be a good time and I haven't had the chance to look at your tackle collection and all your fancy gadgets since Rock creek. I bet it takes two sleds to get all your gear on the ice now!! Feb 15th 8:00 am
