fishingkid78
I know it isn't in minnesota, but I have to say something. Is anyone familiar with this lake, I went camping there last year and saw some carp and buffalo that would easily be over 50 pounds. does anyone target these fish? fishingkid78
What is the biggest one you've got?
Roughfisher
36 pounds. Lost a lot of 50 or 60 pounders though, without ocean-class tackle they will run out all your line unless you are in a boat and can follow them. With the heavy tackle you won't hook as many unfortunately.Handy tip - be sure to put the brakes on and break them off when you have at least 20 feet of line left on your spool. Otherwise, your spool knot will break and you'll lose all your line. Since a big buffalo or carp can empty your reel in about ten seconds, you have to stay alert. Also, when the fish is running directly away from you and threatening to spool you, try to get it to change direction by applying pressure from different angles. If you can pull his head to the left or the right you can sometimes stop a fish that will otherwise run you out of line. The best way to tire a big fish is to make him change direction; if he can keep swimming around in a circle or a straight line you'll be fighting him for hours.Hope this helps!
