This question is directed towards englishsteve. I was told you might know of the fishing in these parts. I just am in the process of moving to London and will live somewhat close to the river. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

As a southwest lad my experience of Thames fishing is zero, but I do know that there are big fish in there. The obvious problem is a. where are they and b. how do you get to them. I don't know if you're aware but most rivers are controlled by angling clubs and private owners. There isn't alot of free access fishing. There was an article recently about fishing the river in London itself, however its a big tidal river with some treacherous mud beds - the whole thing sounded quite risky unless you knew the places well. Also I hear river carpers on the Thames are a v. secretive lot and want to keep their swims hidden for fear of attracting alot of other people. I’m sure there will be an angling club near where you'll be living and it might be worth having a search on some UK sites for info ( I posted a load of links a while back .)

On the good news front however there are simply loads, nay hundreds of good carp lakes in the south east - probably most of the best waters in the country will be a short drive away. Many are day ticket waters ( turn up, pay usually about £6 for a day, £15 for 24 hours ). Most have onsite facilities ( tackle shops, toilets etc )I don't know the area first hand, but I'd recommend carpforum.co.uk ( v.friendly and helpful bunch )as a good starting point - also Kriskarp on the CAG forum is an Essex lad and knows the place well.
Hope this helps smile.gif
Cheers
Steve

tis a sad state affairs, but true. Mind you that being said alot of clubs make life easier ( eg waterways management, weedclearing, bank maintainance, fish stocking etc. ) that also improve the environment so they're by no means a bad thing. Also membership's not expensive - the clubs I belong to charge between £20 - £30 a year for membership and for that you get many miles of rivers and alot of lakes to fish.
