Aquaman01
I'm trying to target Redhorse and Goldeye. The moving water is returning to normal levels and pretty warm. My best guess is to beef up the weight and target faster current over rocks. I don't have any clear & cool streams near me. Any ideas? ------------------Aquaman<')}}}}}><{Peace and Fishes
Guest
Aquaman,I'll trade you. It seems all i can catch lately is suckers. The past two times I've gone out, I've caught nothing but suckers and carp. My normal cat holes just arent producing. Think it could be the mayflies? Anyway, Below the dam at St.Cloud State University there are plenty of them. Anywhere from nice baitsized 12"ers through some larger 24-30"ers. There is a biking/walking path that runs about 2 miles down the west bank of the miss there. Also, a fishing pier right below the dam. Hope that helps.TN
Guest
I'm catching them in the slower current. Right where the fishing pier is on the west side. I cast down stream at about a 45 degree angle and let the current deposit it where it wants. Usually right in-between the heavy current and the shallower light current. I haven't fished that location during the day, so I don't really know how far out the shallow area is. I have a feeling that the shallow part goes out about 20 yards or so towards the main channel. Hope that helps some. Also, you can try down stream. There are plenty of eddys and slackwater areas.
Aquaman01
Thanks a bunch, Tennessean! You've given me just the info I was looking for! I won't be going up to SCSU this week, but that location & conditions info should help me eliminate water and find a good spot closer to home! ------------------Aquaman<')}}}}}><{Peace and Fishes
mnfisherman
Yesterday I caught a nice sized shorthead redhorse on the St.Croix near the Hudson bridge using bread. It might be a nice place to try with redhorse and even more of its close relative, the white sucker.
Aquaman01
That helps a bunch! My two theoretical spots to try Friday evening are the 101 bridge park in Elk River, or the Coon Rapids Dam. If you're gettin' 'em under the SCSU dam, then the Coon Rapids dam might be a good bet. You gettin' 'em in the slackwater, current, deep, or shallow?I've seen a guy pull a mess of cats out from that bank of storm-pipes using cut-bait & bobbers. ------------------Aquaman<')}}}}}><{Peace and Fishes
