clayton08
Well the ice is leaving and Im already dreaming about next year. I have been getting alot of questions lately about tournament fishing. FIgured I would start a column about it and answer any questions anyone has. Im sure some of the other tourney fisherman will chime in also. If your reading this then you probably know how to fish. Just get a wheeler and show up to the lake is all it comes down to. Most the tourneys run on sundays so I personally will dedicate friday and saturday to prefishing sometimes more. It is always nice to get more time on the ice but that doesnt always happen. Learning how the bite is going before the tourney is an absolute advantage. Both the tourneys we won were plastic only days. One thing about tourney fishing is that your gonna break things. Try to bring extra stuff with and hope for the best as far as that goes. (I never come to one without 2 vexilars myself) One of the best things about these tournaments is it make you twice the fisherman you ever were. You learn bits and peices from everyone and kinda pick up a lil from everyones tricks and really do learn alot. The commrodery is what its all about after you do it for awhile you get to meet some really awesome people who share this fishing addiction just as much as you do. This year was an awesome year for me I started the year with little tourney experience. I just found out about them and was eager to do it this year. Got a couple top tens then a win on Prior Lake in the UPL. Then ended up qualifying for the national championship for Team Extreme. That one was the only two day tourney and me and my brother left national champions. I had no sponsors this year so if everyone thinks that only pros fish these there wrong. Yeah it gets kinda spendy at times but its a cheap way to learn things youd never even think about. So if you have any questions about this feel free to chime in. All in all tourney fishing is fun and thats whats its all about you dont always come in to weigh in with all the fish but you will usually have a bucket full of smiles.
