SmokinBobO
I have the Dewalt 20V Max XR. Does this drill produce enough torque to run a 6 inch auger? Has anyone put one of these on the new conversion kit? If so, any issues / mods required for the installation?
S. Thompson
SmokinBobO... I just picked up the Dewalt DCD771 20x Max on a Black Friday special. The drill works great and no problems drilling holes. I know others are using the Dewalt 20v Max and not having issues. Here's a video of a local guy using the kit with a Dewalt drill. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=101...e=2&theater
Brad B
you should be fine. I have the same drill as S Thompson. the only difference between what S. Thompson and I have and the XR is that the XR might have a little more torque and has the built in status gauge on the batteries and a all metal chuck. the one I have took a T20 torx screw driver to get the screw out of the chuck, I would guess the XR might be the same. the hardest part is getting the lock tight to break free at first. after the screw is out the chuck comes off easy. if you want some help with it I am in Monticello too. send me a PM and we could set up a time to meet and you can check out my set up. S. Thompson
I had to go look up the XR on the Dewalt HSOforum. The XR means that it's brushless. According to Dewalt, the brushless motor delivers up to 57% more run time over brushed. Brad, have you had your out on the ice yet?

amateurfishing
I also am using a 20v dewalt on the conversion kit, it works (or worked great) till one of my blades already fell off with less than 10 holes drilled, I did not think it would be necessary to have to check the blades for tightness out of box but apparently I was wrong. its been a rough start for me getting this thing going with chuck issues and now lost blade & screws but it is very nice when its all working together, I love the instant power feature instead of pulling the starting cord every time
Craig Oyler
I have been running the 20v DeWalt on my Conversion Kit, and have been very happy with it. I got just over 100 holes with one battery on Saturday. That was cutting a 6" hole through 6" of ice. I have the larger 3ah batteries. SmokinBobO
Thanks all for your replies! I'll be looking for one of these kits at the show on Friday!
Brad B
you will really like it once you get it put together. I took mine out yesterday after work and drilled 10 holes with it. I was amazed at how fast it was(had it on the low setting and it was still really fast). It took a couple of holes to get use to pulling up a little as it breaks through the bottom of the hole. if you don't the auger unit will grab and pull the drill and plate towards the ice. I put the 8" auger on it so I could test that too. the 8" works like it is suppose too but I think I will mainly use this conversion with my 6" auger. Lawrence Luoma
I got the same drill with 4ah batteries. Well over 100 holes per battery with 5-7 inches of ice over the weekend.
