For some reason this summer seemed longer than most. I don't know if it had to do with my work schedule, or the hot temps, but every summer month felt like it was dragging on longer than the last. Well back in June, I found an app for my phone that will count the days down to a specific date. I put down November 16th. That is when I predicted I would be on some ice. I think it said around 150 days... That also seemed like a long time.

I am happy to say that my prediction was wrong. I was able to find ice on Nov 12th here in the Black Hills.

I also went out yesterday when my countdown said the day has arrived.

Good luck everyone this year, please have a safe and enjoyable ice season!

Craig, I know what you mean when you say that it seems like it's been a long summer. All this new gear has just been screaming at me for months now....

For me, a good season is one that starts on my B-day, Dec 9th. I take that day off every year in hopes of hitting the lake for the first time. Hopefully mother nature will cooperate on this side of the state. She was pretty angry at you guys a month ago!

May the ice be thick and the lines be tight. Fish ON!
