Ice fishing walleyes on a river

I have had terriable luck on walleyes through the ice on this backwater on this river system that I ice fish. The river system is very wierd in this backwater it is just sand and only has a average depth of 3-4 ft deep with ice 2-3 feet deep the ,and only structures are little deep holes here and there, and stumps. In the summer I do great on walleyes catching big stringers of them in this backwater. Then I ice fish it and I catch nothing for walleye, and nobody else catches them either, instead everyone catch panfish, and northerns. And in the tournaments here there are no walleyes caught so I want to find some walleyes so what do I look for I have been this looking at this rocky point that I do good in the summer that nobody fishes that is 5-7 feet deep with current could there be walleyes here in winter, also could you guys tell me where other areas to look for for walleyes here?

A couple of river systems I fish have patterns. In the summer we catch lots of eyes in shallow water anywhere from 10 feet to as shallow as 1 feet deep. When ice comes the fish move out to deeper water. Current does not affect these fish for eating patterns. I would try and get to deeper water, but stay safe like the other guy mentioned. River system ice can change very fast. So approach very cautiously. I would try and bang a jigging rap or buck shot or stop sign or whatever tipped with a chub head. Hopefully that'll work for ya! Good luck!!
