Tim Moore
A state record! I headed out with friends Saturday for a lake trout/perch combo trip. I had Dave Genz True Blue 26" light action combos rigged with 4 pound test line for lake trout and ultra light True Blue 24" combos rigged with 2 pound test line for perch. The morning bite for lakers was good. No huge fish but a 4 pound laker on a light action rod is a blast! There were a couple of instances when one of the tuys thought a school of whites had moved in so he dropped a tungsten jig tipped with plastic and landed two nice lakers. When the laker bite died down we moved into a cove to a 24' hole for perch. We landed some nice fat perch. I was fishing with 4.5mm tungsten jigs tipped with a prototype from Maki Plastic. I moved into 20' when the bite slowed. On my first drop I saw a fat red line on my vexilar come off bottom and the fight was on. I thought I had a laker but I soon learned different. What I caught was a huge white sucker. Today I confirmed that it will be the New Hampshire state record. There is some paperwork left to do to make it official. This is my second state record this year (the other was a saltwater grey triggerfish from my kayak).

Tim Moore
Water temps in the Gulf of Maine were unusually warm last summer. That and an abundance of squid brought fish into the local area like never before, including Black Sea bass. Sea bass are one of my favorite fish. I was jigging for them on bottom in 30' of water on the Piscataqua River (the border between New Hampshire and Maine) from my kayak. Thy fight like crazy, all they want to do is go back to the bottom. They often go to the bottom and into the seaweed. Sometimes they get off and leave you to reel in a clump of seaweed dead weight. That's what I thought happened when I realized there was a fish on my line. I took the fish to NH biologists and they told me that fishermen report these bein caught inside the Gulf of Maine once every forty years. Scott M
Nice fish. I hooked a monster white sucker on Winnibigoshish and Lake of the Woods in Minnesota a couple years back. Had to take a picture with those monsters, they got me all lathered up for a bit. Congrats on the record!
