Anthony Anania
I have a question. what is the definition of a main lake basin, and what am I looking for when looking at a lake map? any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Borch
Generally it's the largest, deepest water in the lake. Sometimes there will be smaller deeper holes.
Jason Durham
Anthony, Borch is right on. However, don't confuse the main lake basin with simply "basins". Some lakes actually have more than one main lake basin and most lakes have multiple "basins" We often think of these areas as bowl-shaped though basins can take many different forms. Fish Hook Lake, which I know you're familiar with, has a single basin. Period. Lake Belle Taine has a main lake basin and several other minor basins. Essentially they are areas expanding from a drop off into a deep water base (ie basin).
Bernie Keefe
I like to think of "basin" being the "trench" at the bottom of a bay when I am looking at a larger lake.
