Gillfisher
Gary / Keith, what would be your starting point on a body of water like Lake Winnebago/Poygan?
Keith Kavajecz
For walleyes I would look at the "horseshoe" area of Poygan - that is the deepest water in the upper lakes. On Winnebago - it is often the shallower mud off the stucture (like just outside of Stockbridge reef - or the basin area just outside of where the Fox flows into Winnebago. Keith Kavajecz
Agreed - I am going to head north for Christmas up by Iron River Wisconsin - should be good ice there.
Gary Parsons
The ice is getting good up here Keith. Sometimes on Winnebago the early ice walleyes wil l surprise you and be quite a ways off of the structured reefs, already roaming the mud flats. Don't be afraid to move and drill many holes. Safe ice will come a bit later there this year, so I wouldn't be surprised to see fish close to the middle of the lake, when you can locate an active school. Gillfisher
Gary, thanks for your response as well, last year the ice season on Bago was not that great, at least for the west siders but when we were able to get out we did have some success drilling many holes out in the mud. The days that we did better we had a team of 3 or 4 guys spread out and searching until someone dropped in on them. I was thinking maybe the fish wouldn't be out in the mud until a little later, we will just have to start our search out a little further than what we have been talking about amongst our group. Thanks again!
Chase Parsons
Yeah, I think we're all anxiously waiting for some ice around the Bago/GB area right now. Cold weather slated all week here but it doesn't help that we keep getting dumped on by snow. First year I can remember I have more snow at my place (east side of GB) than what dad has up by his!
