JJJ
How was the Walleye bite on Waubay this weekend?
Fritz
I was out there from Wednesday 5/14 thru Sunday 5/18 with 6 guys in 2 boats. The Walleye bite was great, I can't tell you exactly how many we caught but in the 5 days we were only able to keep 5 legal fish. I know for sure I caught and released around 50 fish in 3 hours on Friday night. We talked to one of the Fish and Game guys out there and he said the fish have not grown in the past 3 years. All of the fish were 13 to 15 inches and they were starving.
Deemo
yup the guy i know fishes for numbers not size. But they do catch the big nothern and crappies at times. Walleyes are all small the reason they catch a hundred is because they are hurting. This guy said he ran out of minnows and threw plastic.. not the same but close. He still caught walleye but not as fast. The crappies have a bit o size and you could hook into a huge northen if you wanted to.. The lake has them a;so
Deemo
sorry fish the walleye here. If you are a bait guy buy alot. Get a pound o leechs. thats your backup. He gets a 100 fish no lie in one weekend. But it is like he says 12 to 15in eyes. They still grow good craps and northerns . Go for them when you can(right now).
Fritz
DEEMO, I have fished the Crappies out there for the last 3 years and this year they were not there. The first night we put 20 in our boat and it went down hill after that. I'm not sure if we missed them this year our what. We have been going the same time year after year but this year was a bust. I'm headed out there again next weekend with my 6 year old son just to give it one more try. He should have fun just catching the Walleyes! JJJ
Sounds like the Walleyes are actively hitting on jigs with minnows or jigs with plastic. Is there a preferred depth? Do they prefer a rock bottom vs sand bottom? Any info is appreciated, thanks.
Fritz
We just fished the north end along the grade. It really did'nt matter what was put out there. If there was somthing in front of their nose they were biting.
Aberdak
I just had to show my brother-in law this cool web site on fishing. He is from Lafayette, MN. I'll see if he starts watching and posting on this site. He has a nice fish house that he puts on Mille lacs Lk. in the winter. He has been fishing, he won't tell me which lake he has been catching 16" - 18" eyes on. Sorry guys no info from my brother in law.
