Daryl Mestad - Great Turkey Caller

Check out the sportshow insert in the outdoor news this week for a great article on Daryl Mestad. I had the pleasure of calling with him at the Cabelas Turkey Calling Challenge, and let me tell you, this guy is unreal. In the article, he does a great job of describing the difference between competition calling and calling when hunting.

While I only chatted with the guy for a bit, it would've taken only a few seconds to tell how great a turkey caller/hunter he is. The guy is old school, more action than talk, and has the skills and experience to back up what he does say. If you ever get the chance to meet him, or see him at the NWTF convention, take a chance to say hello and pick his brain.

Turkey hunting has a growing shortage of these types of folks, so it's refreshing to hear and learn from such a guy. For anyone just starting out, I suggest you try and find a guy like Daryl......listen, imitate, repeat.
