So I am almost finished with replacing my 40+ year old transom and have a question for anyone that has done it before.  I was wondering what sort of hardware you replaced the rivots with.  I am planning on using SS bolts and washers with nylon in nuts to keep from rattling loose, but do you put a washer on outside of the boat or just the bolt head will be fine.  the plan is to use some sort of marine sealant and I am just concerned that the washer could leave space for water to get in.  Any finishing tips would be appreciated.
