Deitz Dittrich
Need a shot from underneath, they could be oysters?
pushbutton
Could be a nice fat juicy cluster. Yes, a good pic of the underside is always necessary. The gills should be decurrent....run down into the stem, the stem, if there is a stem, is often offset with the body fanning out, and they will smell like an oyster mushroom if it is an oyster mushroom. Suppose that smell thing doesn't help much if you never found one though.....lol.
skeeterbassman
Thanks for the replies, if it is an oyster, at what size should they be picked, figure it would be easier to get a pic of the under side if I cut them but I don't want to unless they're big enough, obviously I don't plan on eating them until I'm 100% sure I know what they are, I'll try and get back out there tomorrow afternoon to get the pic from underneath
pushbutton
Oysters get pretty buggy quick.....actually the black little bug dude isn't so bad....it's those worms. Find it. Pick it.
Stick in Mud
Need a shot from underneath, they could be oysters? Deitz *would* be the first one to chime in on the first oyster thread of the year.

skeeterbassman
I picked the mushrooms, checked online and id say they do look like oysters. What are your thoughts?
NoWiser
Look like an oyster to me. Do they smell like black licorice at all?
skeeterbassman
Id say it has a faint fishy smell to it
pushbutton
Would like a scent confirmation as well. They sure look like one, but almost look bicolor with the cap being darker than the stem....which is something I have never seen....maybe just the the lighting though? At least not much for poisonous look alikes with oysters in general, and for sure not aware of anything poisonous that remotely looks like that. DrJuice1980
Any help with these?
pushbutton
Some sort of polypore, can't remember the name. They always get mistaken.... from a glimpse in the corner of your eye or from a distance ....for a possible young chicken or oyster. Can't imagine poisonous. ...just not good tasting. Stick in Mud
It's a hexagonal polypore, fancy name polyporus alveolarus, or something like that.
