Is it normal for a gel cell battery to heat up while charging?

I have a marcum thats heating up when I charge it using a vex charger, did this because of the charger not turning green.

I have seen many have this isuue with their marcum charger so tried the vex charger.. I'm guessing the charge rate is different. But will this ruin the battery?.. Thanks...
