Dennis 1959
Just another thought to add after fighting my ice auger since new. Five Years old. After tearing down, cleaning and rebuilding my carb. I found no improvement on the running of my ice auger. So i changed the sparkplug and no help. Now me being a retired small engine mechanic, decided to go one step further and pull the reed out from between the crankcase and carb. What i found was a damaged reed that looked like something had been droped on it before or during engine assembly. I took and gently peened the reed as i did not have a new one. I did a good job and when i pulled the starter rope after assembly, the engine roared to life, ran great. I still believe that i should replace the reed as you cannot totally flatten the reed to where it will seal properly. Just another Tecumseh problem that a person encounters that drives you nuts.
