Rapala DT-16

DT16 is designed to be fished at depths of 16 feet. So when fishing off a pier, I doubt that any of them have 16 feet of water easily accessible in range. Off of piers I would go with an original and use the same retrieve....crank a few times then rest it a second then pick up the retrieve again. Other ideas might be to use spinner baits or buzzbaits above weeds.

I just bought a Rapala Dives-to 16 feet baby bass this morning. I gave it a test drive in a lake near by my house. I was just casted it off the pier. As far as distance goes, it does go very far - Even with strong head wind. Maybe I am using it wrong, it tends to get lots of weed. I noticed that it floats naturally, and only sinks to a certain depth when retrieving. So what I ended up doing was retrieving it slowly and then pause for a few seconds for it float back up a little bit and repeat the process.

I didn't catch anything this morning using this technique. What kind of technique should I use since I never used a crankbait before? Should I have gotten the higher depth ones (dt-6 or dt-10) instead since I only fish off piers or shore?

Thanks,

PT
