Ive often wonderd what everyone looks for in a bear. We put alot of effort time and money into this and whatnkinda animal do ya want as a end result. Do ya look for a heavy weight? Or satisfid with meat in the freezer. I myself look for a little of bith worlds. I have shot any true monsters before. But some real nice representations of th species. Ive [PoorWordUsage] plenty of frezer bear also. I ki da look for a bear the will do both for me decent size for the meat. Like a real nice doe. Mature is what i should say. What yiu guys think

For me it can change from year to year. Most times I'm looking for a 200 pound bear that is better than average and provides a good amount of meat. Last year I was looking for a bear to make a rug for my cabin. Unfortunately the bear that came in had a short front leg with a club foot. Even after five days he walked away. Next time will still be the same goal.

I've been around enough dead bear now that the next one will have to be huge, I think with the decrease in tags there will be some bigger bear killed in the next few years. I have already noticed a difference in my trail cam pic's that the average seems to be coming up on size.

Yeah, I agree. The bear population should be going up based on the cub sightings, less tags available etc. I am seeing a pair of them often. Bear size should be going up as well as coldtrack pointed out. I was told that the DNRs main goal with holding back on tags was to increase the average age of sows as well as to have less hunters interfering with each other.

this was my first year of bear hunting and my goal was to harvest one... any size or age class would do. The only thing i would not do is shoot a sow with cubs. I did have a sow with three cubs in my bait sight. but i figure they were tracking grease through the woods for me!
