03 Trailblazer knocking and squealing

I just bought a 03 Trailblazer that has a knocking or loud ticking noise. Sounds like it is in the top of the motor or head. It really isnt noticable right away but after about 20 seconds it is pretty loud, the squeak comes and goes randomly, sounds like a metal on metal squeal. It has oil and good oil pressure, but I bought it like this so I dont know any history. I havent had a chance to work on it at all. Any common problems on these or suggestions on where to start?
