vermilionfox
2001 Mazda MPV, 2.5l. A/C blows cold while running at speed, but warms up at idle. The charge is good. I have read that possibly the fan is not running when the compressor kicks on. The van has two fans at the radiator. Which fan should be on when the compressor is running? the larger of the two fans is on the right side, and the smaller on the left. Appreciate the help! Jeremy airjer W
At least one of them should be on with the a/c on. With out a fan running there is no air flow to cool the compressed freon into a liquid in the condenser. This means the a/c blows warm when stopped. On the fan control module bolted to the radiator fan housing you will find three connectors. On the 3 wire connector you should have one wire that is ground. One wire that has 12 volts. And the last wire is a signal wire from the PCM (I believe they use a 5 volt signal). The other two connectors are the feeds to the fans. If you have power and ground at the other connector than you should have power and ground to at least one of the fans with the engine running and the a/c on. I have had these coming in with the fans barely running and running all the time. Smacking the module (since Mazda is owned by ford it is now acceptable to use ford diagnostic techniques on them) will either make the fans stop or make them work normal for a short period. If you find the same results replace the module.
vermilionfox
Thanks for the help, I am not getting a fan on when the a/c comes on only when it warms up. I'll use that Ford diagnostic technique after work today!

vermilionfox
I did not have a chance to look at this again until last night. I can't find a fan control module at all. Is there another way this could be set up?
Jeremy airjer W
It should be mounted on the fan housing and if memory serves correct it is on the passenger side. You should be able to follow the wires from the fan to the module. It is fairly buried and a good flashlight will help find it.A quick google search, 2001 mazda mpv fan control module, should give you all kinds of info on where to find it.
