I have kind of a goofy question about the transmission.. Okay its the 5.4 with the tow/off road and automatic trans.

In every late model automatic I've driven the over drive gear engaged around 40mph reducing rpm's for efficiency. while cruising steady (on a flat road for example), when you take your foot off the gas it pops out, reducing rpm just above 1000. when you apply the throttle again it goes back into the OD gear. Not sure how to explain in better words but most cars do it this way.

This truck seems to hold the gear. basically when you let go of the gas it tends to coast pretty well holding the rpm then slowly dropping as it loses momentum. i just think this is goofy and would be hard on the brakes in the long run having to over power a little bit of engine torque approaching stop lights and such. maybe this is just how the old ones were made? iv never paid any attention in a truck to the tach so this just caught my curiosity.
