fish finder help

I have a eagle fish easy 350C which is the old model that has been replaced with the lawrence elite 4. Eagle is now lawrence. I have this thing on my kayak with the transducer straight in the water on a arm I made from aluminum. I been paddling out 3 times now and it marks bottom structure but no fish as well sometimes it goes a little crazy and I get a bunch of lines coming from to to bottom like crazy weeds that go deep also it looks like a ton of tiny fish arcs cluttered in with it. Any tips on how I should adjust the settings? such as sensitivity, chart speed depth adjustments. I have everything on auto Id like to see more of fish arcs, but maybe its still too early the fish are still hugging the bottom?

I tend to run chart and ping speed set high.

I might turn the chart speed down depending on depth and suspended targets are printed.

Depth, if I'm in 8' of water and the sounder picks the 20' scale I'll manual get to the 10' scale. If I'm changing a lot depth contours I'll set to auto depth.

Gain/Sensitivity I always use manual. Increase gain till you get noise but also taking into account for weeds. I don't want to run to hot to show them as solid. Your going to experiment here and as times goes on you'll get the hang of that setting and will be changing it often.

Surface noise and filtering. I normally run that on low. It depending the day and particles in the water. That and gain setting could clear up the noise your seeing.

Could also be your creating turbulence with your paddle.

Weak transducer. If your having to turn the gain up to get a good bottom reading chances are the ducer is bad. You won't make suspended fish with a bad ducer.

Suspended targets. With the above set properly your set to mark those targets. How they print isn't always a perfect arc. Sounds like your Ducer alignment is OK?

More so its interpreting bottom. Hard, soft, weeds, rock, fish.

Again experimenting there with gain and Colorline.
